1. Property owners awakening one day to notice a cell tower too close to their bedrooms, classrooms, or nearby parks realize to their shock – if they seek help from local officials to oppose these radiation-emitting antennas – that rarely do they succeed. Further, few of these owners even realize the health risk of wireless, with a third of Americans already sensitive to the radiation from what Mr. Coates will explain stems from what he phrases, “low fidelity biology” that, unlike other environmental pollutants, is devoid of informed consent for lack of any ability to avoid the densifying, wireless mesh. Making matters worse, Congress seems disinterested in stopping the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from utterly preempting whatever weak power local officials have to protect their voters.  And as Mr. Coates will explain, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has ignored a law requiring his Health and Human Services Department to obtain proof of safety from any wireless radiation-emitting equipment (which should include cell towers). Mr. Coates lost his child to radio frequency microwave radiation and has dedicated his life and engineering expertise since the 1990s to a patent alternative to wireless radiation called “LiFi,” which when combined with “last mile” wireline deployment could bridge the broadband digital divide in a way that not only is fast, reliable, secure, and affordable but also safe.
2. Beyond the preemption immediately facing us via the FCC, the same preemption resides in a bill that so far has not been able to get scheduled for a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. However, other wireless-densifying bills have passed the House or Senate, or could be inserted into any must-pass legislation that Congress always ends up relying on for failure to pass smaller bills by the end of session. These bills include ones to promote the proliferation of electromagnetic radiation from satellites without health or environmental review. Indeed, the FCC has NEVER assessed the health or environmental impacts of satellites. Other bills include farm reliance on satellite radiation for broadband incorrectly called “precision ag” or to dispense with environmental cell tower reviews altogether. The FCC also hasn’t been forced by Congress to comply with the 2021 DC Circuit Court order to update their radiation exposure limits to account for the science showing harm to children, the environment, and for all over the long term.
